For the management of the Dehradun zoo, the Government of Uttarakhand constituted a society, Dehradun zoo management society.
The objectives of the society are-
- To make provisions for advancement in research, training, and education in the field of wildlife conservation both in-situ and ex-situ.
- To maintain and manage all the affairs of Dehradun Zoo.
- To work in the field of rescue, recovery, breeding, and rehabilitation of endangered species.
- To adopt special measures for the prevention and cure of major and minor afflictions/ diseases in wildlife.
- To provide, improve and maintain the assets of Dehradun zoo Management Society.
- To promote education and public awareness in the field of wildlife conservation.
- To impart training to the departmental staff, educational and research institutions, organizations, NGO, local communities in the field of ex-situ and in-situ conservation, management, and sustainable ecotourism.
- To act as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) in the field of wildlife conservation and sustainable nature-based ecotourism.
- To do or undertake all such other acts or things as may be required to promote the objectives of the Society.
Power and function of the society are-
- To manage the affairs of the Dehradun/Malsi Zoo and all other wildlife conservation and ecotourism activities in Dehradun in the best interests of the wildlife conservation and management.
- To fulfill the objectives of the society, publish SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), instructions, pamphlets, books, brochures, magazines, and other publications.
- To organize seminars, workshops, conferences and training etc for discussion and exchange of ideas among experts and dissemination of knowledge in the concerning fields.
- To recruit trained manpower, resource trainers and experts to achieve the objectives of the Society.
- To accept grants, donations, assistance from Government organization, public bodies, corporations, companies, persons or trusts, for the purposes of the Society and to achieve the objects stated herein.
- To borrow or raise such amounts of money within India as may be required by the Society for fulfilling its objects, by the issue of bills of exchange, promissory notes or other obligations or securities of the Society.
- To pay salary/wages/fee including consultancy, retainer ship fee, sitting fee, rent and incur all other expenses needed in fulfillment of the objects of the Society.
- To enter into any arrangements with any Government(s) or authorities whether Central, State, municipal, local or any other person, that may seem conducive to the objects of the Society. To purchase, take on lease or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any movable or immovable property, and in particular any land, building, workshops, laboratories, machinery, plant apparatus, appliances, trades, trademarks, licenses, permits, intellectual property rights (IPRs), and any rights or privileges necessary or convenient for the purpose of meeting the objects of the Society.
- To construct, erect, develop, improve, or alter and keep in repair any infrastructures acquired or used by or for the Society and to pull down or demolish or dispose of any infrastructures not so required or for renovation and reconstruction and to maintain, deal with, manage, control and administer the same.
- To pay all expenses, preliminary or incidental to the formation of the Society and its registration.
- To establish, support or aid in the establishment of associations, institutions, funds, and trusts as may be required in furtherance of the objects of the Society.
- To collect fee including membership fee, service charges, consultancy charge, compensations or such other monies as may be required in due course of the functioning of the Society and in furtherance of its objects.
- To take membership in any other society or association, with objects similar to its own.
- To appoint legal and technical advisers (not being members), bankers for the Society and to pay the necessary expenses for the same.
- To draw, make accept, endorse, discount, execute and issue cheques, promissory notes, bills of lading, railway receipt and other negotiable and instruments of all description in connection with the Society’s business.
- And to generally, do all such other lawful things as may be incidental to or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
